The Story Behind Our Foundation
Chairman's Vision and Journey
Mr. S. Kunjithapatham, L.M.E., began his career as a Motor Vehicle Inspector in the Government Transport Department. After resigning, he launched a garment factory with just 25 sewing machines. By 1973, he began direct exports, establishing Mahalashmi Garments Exports, which has since grown into one of Chennai’s leading exporters, employing over 600 staff across Chennai, Nagore, and Kumbakonam.
Driven by a long-standing dream to uplift rural students through education, he founded the Mahalashmi Kunjithapatham Educational & Charitable Trust in 1997. Through this trust, he established an Arts & Science College, providing over 1,30,000 sq. ft. of built-up space across 20 acres. Furthering this mission, Mahalashmi Matriculation School was launched in 2006 to support quality schooling for all.
